Construction Updates for U.S. 30, SR 15
Unfortunately, traffic is becoming a headache for motorists in the construction zone but there is nothing the Indiana Department of Transportation can do to help.
According to Mary Foster of INDOT, the work being done on U.S. 30 is for the entrance to what will be the new Meijer store. “It’s done through permits, not through (INDOT),” she said.
General contractor Rockford Construction has hired Phend & Brown locally to install a new turn lane and the entrance to the future store. To get that work done, the highway is reduced to one lane in both the east and westbound lanes. Foster said U.S. 30, from the overpass in the eastbound lane to just west of Spring Hill Road in the westbound lane, will remain single lanes until paving is complete next week.
Meijer’s target date for opening is June 2013. Dombrosky said the company has received all of the necessary permits and construction on the building is expected to start in September.
Foster also gave an update on the SR 15 bridge project in Claypool. The bridge was closed on Feb. 20 but, she said work by Phend & Brown is on schedule and the state highway is expected to be re-opened the first week of September.
Foster said on Sept. 2, weather permitting, the bridge will be open to traffic, although some finalization work will still take place.
