Second Kidnap Attempt Reported
For the second time in less than a month an attempted kidnapping has been reported in Kosciusko County.
On Sunday, July 21, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Ben Sanders was called to Wizard of Oz Way in Cromwell. The complainant, a 32-year-old woman, reported an attempted assault and kidnapping of a juvenile had occurred the previous day at a location in the 11000 block of North Treasure Island Drive, Cromwell.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chad Hill says two children were involved. Allegedly the children, ages 11 and 12 years old, were riding their bikes home from the Enchanted Hills community pool when a beige or tan Trail Blazer approached them, then left the area. The vehicle, which the children say they never saw before, left but came back and the male subject driving the vehicle attempted to kipdnap one of the children.
The suspect was said to be driving possibly a tan or beige Chevy Trail Blazer. He is described as a white male in his 40s to 50s with white hair and a white mustache. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black vest and blue pants.
Another abduction attempt was reported on June 30.
In that case, the 12-year-old female victim was near her homeĀ in the 800 block of CR North 175 East, Warsaw. According to the girl, she was approached by a man and told he had suckers in his car and asked if she wanted to go get them.
That suspect was described by the girl as being in his 50s or 60s and she believes he was bald but he was wearing a ball cap with no bill at the front. He was wearing a red T-shirt, khaki shorts and black sandals. The victim did not get a license plate number but described his vehicle as a small white car.
KCSD detectives are continuing to investigate both cases. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call the KCSD at 574-267-5667.
