Accidents
Officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department recently investigated the following accidents:
- Tuesday, July 24, 9:10 p.m. CR 200E, 1,000 feet south of CR 700N, Leesburg. Drivers: Sue Gest, 45, 2631 E. Pine Dr., Warsaw, and Jason Waddle, 38, 4181 Deer Run, Warsaw. A deer crossed the path of Waddle who stopped in the roadway, and Gest could not avoid a collision from behind. Damages: up to $5,000
- Tuesday, July 24, 6:25 a.m. SR 13S and CR 1000S, Sidney. Driver: Paula Stinson, 56, 119 EMS B20C Lane, Pierceton. Stinson struck a deer. Damages: up to $2,500
- Sunday, July 22, 5:12 a.m. CR 1000N, 2,000 feet west of CR 500W, Nappanee. A car was found resting upside down after veering off the roadway and overcorrecting multiple times. No driver was located at the scene. Damages: up to $25,000
- Sunday, July 22, 12:14 a.m. CR 350N and CR 100E, Warsaw. Driver: Caitlin Irvine, 20, 204 Pope St., Winona Lake. Vehicle 1 made a right turn at a four-way stop, crossed the center line and struck the side of Irvine’s car. The driver of V1 fled the scene. Damages: up to $5,000
- Thursday, July 19, 5:25 p.m. Market Street and Buffalo Street, Warsaw. Drivers: Paula Hostetter, 53, 7058 W 1350N, Nappanee, Kathleen Titus, 58, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw, and Rickey Brown, 53, 1694 S. White Pine Rd., Warsaw. The three drivers were waiting for traffic to clear from an intersection. Hostetter saw the light turn green and did not realize the other two cars were not moving, colliding with Titus whose car was pushed into Brown’s. Damages: up to $2,500
- Wednesday, July 18, 5:10 p.m. CR 200E and CR 700N, Leesburg. Drivers: Maria Marquez, 28, 3699 N 175E, Lot 192, Warsaw, and Adam List, 49, 4546 E. Fox Run Dr., Syracuse. Marquez stopped at an intersection and proceeded, running into List, who was not required to stop. Marquez was cited for Operating Never Licensed. Damages: up to $10,000
- Thursday, July 12, 10:19 p.m. CR 350N and CR 150E, Warsaw. Driver: Brett Bradley, 27, 312 N. Broadway St., Mentone. Bradley ran off the road and hit an embankment, leaving the scene to find help. Damages: up to $5,000

- Thursday, July 26. Islas Paola, Warsaw, reported the theft of her WIC envelope and receipts that she had already gotten.
- Wednesday, July 25, 9:40 p.m. Dillon Peters, Fisher, was arrested for minor possession and consumption of alcohol after reports of an underage drinking party at 8888 E. Hatchery Rd.
- Wednesday, July 25, 3:40 p.m. Bryan Thomas reported theft of items from his residence on E 100N in Warsaw.
- Wednesday, July 25, 10:30 a.m. Steven J. Ridenour, Silver Lake, reported developments on an ongoing family dispute.
- Tuesday, July 24. John Ford, Palos Park, Ill., reported the theft of his fishing boat from his secondary residence in Syracuse.
- Tuesday, July 24. Jason Overholt, Etna Green, reported the theft of a gun from a vehicle.
- Monday, July 23, 3:30 p.m. Thomas Mares, Cromwell, reported a floor jack and alcohol were stolen from his shed.
- Monday, July 23, 10:30 a.m. Rick and Nick Shoemaker, Leesburg, reported an amp, speakers and sunglasses were stolen from a vehicle overnight.
- Monday, July 23, 5:20 a.m. Brendon Pratt, 19, South Bend, was arrested for minor possession and consumption of alcohol.
- Monday, July 23, 1:30 a.m. Patrick Robert Amos, 20, Terre Haute, was arrested for operating while intoxicated after two complaints.
- Monday, July 23. Jim A Spigutz, Oakbrook Terrace, reported the theft of a Rolex watch and diamond ring from his unlocked car.
- Monday, July 23. James D. Nolan, Claypool, reported damage to his motorcycle after he parked it at a friends house. The child of Leif Cox, 34, Warsaw, scratched all the surfaces of the motorcycle.
- Monday, July 23. Austin Perkins called 911 after he found his uncle, Gary Miller, Claypool, unresponsive. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
- Sunday, July 22, 10:21 a.m. Carolyn Long, Syracuse, reported various vandalism to her shed and barn. Additional thefts were then reported of a horse trailer, boat trailer,hay rake and miscellaneous scrap.
- Sunday, July 22, 12:31 a.m. Adam Clabaugh, Mentone, advised that Holly Poe, Mentone, was receiving harassing text messages and telephone calls.
- Saturday, July 21, 4:25 p.m. George Dvorak, Leesburg, reported he was battered by a family member.
- Thursday, July 19, 9:58 p.m. Doug Brinegar of Cornerstone Homes and Construction, North Webster, reported the theft of a generator and compressor from his business and a work site.
- Thursday, July 19, 7:25 p.m. A juvenile was punched by his mother’s boyfriend. No arrest was made due to exceptional clearance.
- Thursday, July 19. Mary Dixon, Syracuse, reported a large amount of jewelry missing from her residence.
- Thursday, July 19. Kristian Cripe, Syracuse, reported harassment of a mentally handicapped 38-year-old neighbor.
- Thursday, July 19. Gilberto Rico, Milford, reported his truck stolen. He was planning to sell the truck to a co-worker who he let test drive it for a few days. He brought the title to work and later found it stolen, along with the vehicle.
- Wednesday, July 18, 4:30 a.m. Elizabeth Flechenstein, North Webster, reported a Syracuse man pulled a knife on Cory Iden, North Webster. The suspect was not arrested because of exceptional clearance.
- Wednesday, July 18. Dean Kauffman, Bourban, reported purchasing an item on eBay and never receiving it.
- Tuesday, July 17, 9:58 p.m. Brad Blanton, Warsaw, reported the theft of scrap wood from his year by a juvenile.
- Monday, July 16, 10:16 a.m. Parnell Peconga, Warsaw, reported a woman used his Mutual Bank card without his permission.
- Friday, June 29. Michael Westforth, Naples, Fla., reported a company truck catching on fire while he was driving it. The truck, 1996 F-150, was a total loss.
- Wednesday, June 27, 2:20 p.m. Sherry Sue Elliot, 59, Syracuse, was arrested after being involved in a moped accident. She appeared to be under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident and was in possession of marijuana.
- Saturday, June 23. Paula Warren, Warsaw, reported the theft of two metal diecast cars, movies, Jim Beam glasses, a Zippo lighter and jewelry.
