Accidents
Officers of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department recently investigated the following accidents:
- Sunday, July 22, 1:40 p.m. CR 650N and CR 600E, North Webster. Driver: Refugio Ramirez, 39, 4854 E 650N, Leesburg. Ramirez struck a deer. Damages: up to $5,000
- Sunday, July 22, 12:38 a.m. U.S. 30E, 300 feet west of CR 800W, Etna Green. Driver: Richard Zahm, 57, 105 N 200E, Columbia City. Zahm struck a deer. Damages: up to $5,000
- Saturday, July 21, 11:35 p.m. South 950W and SR 25, Mentone. Driver: Adam Beliles, 27, 7152 Lincoln Highway, Bourban. Beliles couldn’t stop at a stop sign in time, went air born and landed in a cow pasture. He was cited for driving while suspended, class D felony. Damages: up to $10,000
- Friday, July 20, 12:03 p.m. County Farm Road and CR 350S, Warsaw. Drivers: Daniel Anderson, 50, 657 E. 300S, Warsaw, and Todd Sloan, 55, 1403 W Oriole Dr., Warsaw. Sloan hit the rear of Anderson’s car as he slowed to turn right. Damages: up to $5,000
- Friday, July 20, 10:11 a.m. County Farm Road, Claypool. Driver: Duane Smith, 67, 600 N. Colfax, 115, Warsaw. Smith’s car left the roadway and struck a culvert, earth embankment and utility pole with the drivers side. Damages: up to $10,000
- Friday, July 20, 8:48 a.m. CR 350S and CR 500E, Warsaw. Drivers: Charles Plummer, 23, 5266 E 350S, Pierceton, and Sheila Bays, 67, 7975 E 800S, South Whitley. Plummer backed out of his driveway, not seeing Bays approaching, and the vehicles collided. Damages: up to $2,500
- Friday, July 20, 2:51 a.m. US 30E and CR 800W, Warsaw. Drivers: Benjamin Essick, 29, 424 S. Columbia St., Warsaw, and Richard Morris, 52, 3601 N. Ralston Ave., Indianapolis. Essick crossed into Morris’s path at a four-way intersection. Damages: up to $25,000
- Monday, July 16, 6:51 a.m. US 30E and SR 13S, Pierceton. Drivers: Ashley Hayes, 31, 394 Jamestown Court, Aurora, and Todd Snyder, 40, 110 14th St., Winona Lake. Both drivers complained of a slick substance on the road. Hayes attempted to slow in traffic and collided with Snyder. Damages: $2,500.

- Sunday, July 22, 5:12 p.m. Lindsey Hill, Mentone, reported the theft of prescription medicine from a residence.
- Saturday, July 21, 5:23 p.m. Michelle Burkholder, 40, Warsaw, reported that Marciella Melendez Gonzalez, 34, Warsaw, trespassed. The report was part of an ongoing dispute over trespassing between neighbors.
- Saturday, July 21, 5:17 p.m. Perry Evans, Muncie, reported the theft of three wheeled cooler scooters and a wakeboard from a lake home and sheds.
- Saturday, July 21, 5:17 p.m. Barb and Dave Abernathy, Elwood, reported a flat screen television and three bottles of alcohol were stolen from a residence.
- Saturday, July 21, 10:27 a.m. Roger L. Bruce, 57, Warsaw, slowed for a truck in front of him, causing him to lay his motorcycle down. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to the scene on reports of a personal injury.
- Saturday, July 21, 6:56 a.m. Joseph Khiev, 28, Warsaw, was arrested for battery.
- Saturday, July 21, 3:08 a.m. Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a possible underage drinking party. Erick Miller, 19, was arrested and two juveniles were taken into custody.
- Friday, July 20, 6 p.m. Red L. Hite, Warsaw, reported a laptop, iPod and radar detector were taken from an unlocked vehicle in the Chapman Lake area.
- Friday, July 20. Shane Arthur, Pierceton, reported an iPod, change, several knives and a flashlight were stolen from a motor vehicle.
- Friday, July 20, 10:46 a.m. Terry Simpkins, Leesburg, contacted the Sheriff’s Department to notify officers a coin box was taken from a locked machine at Freedom Oil in Leesburg. A key was used in the theft.
- Thursday, July 19. Marty Robbins, 43, Pierceton, was arrested for domestic battery in the presence of minors.
- Tuesday, July 17, 7:03 a.m. Nathan A. Greenwell, 40, was arrested for stealing two rolls of electric wire from his employer, Gulf Stream of Etna Green.
- Monday, July 16, 12:39 p.m. John Kendall, Valparaiso, reported several pieces of camera equipment, including lenses, memory cards, camera body and tripods, along with other electronics were stolen from a vehicle.
