Local Mom, Son Meet With Congress
Local mom and Heartline Pregnancy Center staff member Emily Behny and her 5-year-old son, Aidan, joined two other HPC staff members today to create the first Indiana delegation for the Babies Go to Congress annual campaign in Washington, D.C.
The delegation is part of Heartbeat International’s annual campaign. Angela Wood, HPC executive director; Behny, HPC employee and mom who chose life for her baby as a teen mom; Aidan Behny; and Amy Rosswurm, TNT Childcare & Preschool program coordinator, comprised the Indiana delegation.
Behny was chosen by Heartbeat International as one of three moms to go to Congress this year and was selected based on submission of her written story. Locally, HPC has made a measurable impact on the community.
“Emily is one of thousands of women from our community that Heartline has had an opportunity to help succeed. Pregnancy centers are good for America because we offer hope, and more importantly, solutions, to women and their families who are facing an unplanned pregnancy,” stated Wood. “We are very excited and appreciative for the opportunity to meet with our elected officials in Washington.”
HPC support ranges from limited medical services to parenting coaching and education to tangible items like diapers and formula. “Pregnancy centers are here to support and equip families throughout their entire journey.
Since 2009, more than 145 individuals have participated in Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress, meeting with nearly 180 congressmen and congressional staff. “It’s an opportunity for these moms to share their gratitude with U.S. lawmakers, to tell Congress that pregnancy help centers are good for America, and to introduce to America their children who were once at risk for abortion,” explains Virginia Cline, Heartbeat International Spokesperson.
Babies Go To Congress features mothers and their children served by one of Heartbeat pregnancy centers visiting Congress to lobby their elected representatives as part of a Heartbeat International campaign.
