A female juvenile was struck by a car on Market Street near Fribley Field, Warsaw, and is now in serious condition. It happened at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Warsaw Police were called to the 700 block of East Market Street where 7-year-old Mikala Watkins was found semi-conscious lying in the road.

The crash investigation found that a group of children had been at Dubois-Richardson Park when several of the children crossed Market Street. Witnesses said the girl quickly darted across Market Street in front of an eastbound 2002 Honda Civic, driven by 62-year-old Linda J. Barbosa, Warsaw. The front of the Honda struck the child throwing her up on the hood of the car and then to the road. Skid marks on the road indicated Barbosa tried to avoid striking the child.

Mikala was flown by Samaritan air ambulance to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where she is in serious condition suffering from head and side injuries. Kosciusko F.A.C.T. investigators do not believe speed is a factor in this crash. They also found that alcohol and drug were not factors.

Warsaw Police were assisted by Kosciusko County F.A.C.T., Warsaw Fire, Multi-Township EMS, and Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.
