Tree Project Partners with Groupon
The Indiana Tree Project announced today it will be pairing with Groupon Grassroots to support and expand Indiana’s state forests.
Groupon Grassroots is the philanthropic arm of the company that uses the collective action model to raise money for different causes.
The project aims to plant one million trees and create 1,000 acres of new forestland by 2016, the state of Indiana’s bicentennial anniversary.
This campaign will be available on the Indianapolis Groupon Grassroots page (http://groupon.com/deals/grs-the-indiana-tree-project) beginning today and running through July 22.
Groupon subscribers can pledge support for the statewide tree-planting initiative in increments of $10. All funds raised go directly to the purchase, planting and maintenance of hardwood tree saplings, and partially cover the cost of purchasing land to plant additional trees.
“We are excited to employ the collective action model of Groupon Grassroots to raise support for The Indiana Tree Project,” said Bourke Patton, executive director of the Indiana Natural Resources Foundation. “We look forward to creating new awareness for The Indiana Tree Project as one of the local organizations in Indianapolis to be featured on Groupon Grassroots.”
Each donor of The Indiana Tree Project receives a Tree ID number corresponding to where their tree sapling will be planted. Donors can log on to The Indiana Tree Project website (www.theindianatreeproject.org) and follow the planting date of their tree, find the acre where the tree is planted and track the tree’s growth using GPS technology.
