The National Weather Service says South Bend received 2.11 inches of rain on Saturday. Granger reportedly received 2.5 inches of rain in a 15-minute afternoon downpour that created near blinding sheets of rain. It was the first measurable precipitation St. Joseph County since a trace of rain fell July 1. An estimated 2,800 customers in South Bend even lost power during the storm.
Weather service meteorologist Evan Bentley in North Webster tells the Associated Press other areas such as Plymouth, Middlebury, Goshen, Warsaw and Syracuse did not receive any rain at all. Fort Wayne received a trace of rain.
Even with the rain, Bentley says drought conditions still exist across northern Indiana.
