North Webster Public Library News
To celebrate summer reading, the North Webster Public Library is hosting the Twister Mike Balloon Sculpting Show at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, in the North Webster Community Center Banquet Hall. All ages – adults and kids alike – will enjoy this unique show as Twister Mike makes his amazing balloon creations.
For 20 years, this popular balloon artist has entertained audiences with his balloon sculpting skills. He is president of the Michiana Balloon Twister’s Club and regularly performs at Notre Dame football games, charity events, private parties, grand openings, company picnics, and libraries.
The next day, Twister Mike will conduct a Balloon Sculpting Workshop for teens at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19. Open to members of the Teen Summer Reading Club, this workshop will teach teens how to entertain others by making balloon animals and other balloon sculptures. To take part in this fun and entertaining workshop, teens are asked to register at the Youth Services Desk.
The adult reading clubs, which meet year-round, invite summer residents and returned snow birds to join in during the summer months. The library offers two reading clubs – The READ Book Club and Voyager Book Club.
The READ Book Club meets at 5:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month and selects a specific book each month to read and discuss. This month, on July 16, the club will be discussing Wish You Well by David Baldacci.
Next month’s selection is Mary Shaffer’s Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society.
For those who prefer more options, the Voyager Book Club allows participants to read and discuss any book of their choice within a certain genre. The Voyager Club meets the fourth Monday of each month at 10:00 a.m., and on July 23 members will be sharing a science fiction or fantasy they’ve read. In August, the genre will be a book that’s been made into a movie.
What better way to enjoy the summer than to curl up on the patio or under a shade tree with a long cool drink and a good book! Whether you enjoy the time-honored classics or latest reading craze, the Library has a large selection of adult and children’s books to please every penchant. Remember, many summer residents qualify for a North Webster Library card or can use their Evergreen card from their home libraries.
