Pilot Escapes Injury in Crash Landing
An airplane crash landed in a field east of Nappanee Thursday, but the pilot escaped injury.
According to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department, officers were called at approximately 8:50 p.m. to investigate the crash in a cornfield east of the Nappanee Airport and north of U.S. 6 and east of CR 13.
David Cooper, 50, of Edwardsburg, Mich., was flying his ultra light Mini-Max when he had to make an emergency landing in a cornfield after experiencing engine problems. Cooper was uninjured and the aircraft sustained only minor damages.
Cooper was headed to a private airstrip in Ligonier when the crash occurred. The incident is still under investigation and has been forwarded to the FAA for further review.
