Low Lake Levels Can’t Stop Flotilla
“Cartoon Mania” and this year’s Wawasee Flotilla will go as scheduled Sunday in spite of Wawasee Lake’s levels being almost 2-feet below normal.
Entries will gather in Conklin Bay at 1 p.m. Sunday with the Flotilla beginning its clockwise trek around the lake at 1:30 p.m. The route may not motor as close to shore as in the past, however, because of the water levels.
While the committee is aware some individuals may want to participate, but may be unable due to the type of boat and low water levels, there is still an opportunity to be involved. Those who cannot put a boat in the Flotilla are encouraged to use those decorations to decorate the pier/yard. Awards will be presented for pier decorations as well as Flotilla entries.
Awards will be presented to judging categories of: antique boat, best Lake Wawasee history, business/commercial, most original, most patriotic, neighborhood, non-profit, wooden boat and youth. The top awards will remain the Commodore’s Award and special commendations by the Wawasee Property Owners Association and Department of Natural Resources. Awards will be presented immediately after the parade at Pier 691.
Individuals who want to be considered for prizes are asked to register at Team Tuttle Mortgage LLC, South Huntington Street, Syracuse, or by calling (574) 457-3775 by Friday, July 6.
