Lake queens, marching bands and various other organizations marched down Main Street in North Webster for the 67th annual Mermaid Festival parade.
Karilyn Metcalf, president of Dixie Sternwheeler Inc., led the parade as grand marshal and then dashed back to her seat at the judges stand. Only the marching band entries were judged, with the winner yet to be announced.
In the 92 degree heat, the North Webster United Methodist Church was a parade favorite as they passed out ice cold water bottles.
After the parade, which was just under and hour, spectators poured into the Lions Club grounds to enjoy the carnival rides, games and food vendors. Dark clouds moved in, but only offered a few minutes of welcomed rain.
Next year’s Mermaid Festival will be dixie-themed.
