UPDATE: Accident On U.S. 30
It was a sad scene at a crash that tied up a part of U.S. 30 in Warsaw for over an hour Wednesday.
The accident occurred in the eastbound lane at the stop light when a moving truck rear-ended a horse trailer being pulled by a pickup truck. One horse was in the trailer and sustained cuts and scrapes to its hind quarters and face. Many individuals on the scene, including Kosciusko County Animal Control Officer Jerry Clase, were tending to the horse, that was transported to a veterinarian for treatment but ultimately had to be put down. The force of the crash pushed the pickup truck into a third vehicle.
Warsaw Police investigated the crash and found that the driver of the moving van, Jason M. Coy, 36, Barnhart, Mo., was eastbound and believed the light was red at CR 150 West. He rear-ended the stopped truck and horse trailer. An officer at the scene said the horse was ejected from the trailer and bleeding from all legs and its face.
The driver of the truck, Angela Walls, 49, of Pierceton, and her passenger, Jamie Walls, 17, were treated at Whitley County Hospital for leg and shoulder pain respectively. Coy sustained a laceration to his right hand and was treated at the scene.
Why Coy failed to stop for the red light is not known.
