Outdoor Movie at the Library
On Friday, June 15, at sundown (approximately 9:30 p.m.) join the library for a special movie showing in the beautiful outdoors! The library will be showing the new movie Smitty on a huge high definition projection outside the library in the back. Bring your own chairs, blankets and refreshments for this family event.
Children’s Programs
Join a Summer Reading Program and watch your imagination grow. Summer reading is in full swing at the SPL Children’s Department readers 2 years to 13 years old are invited to join the summer reading fun. We offer prizes, reading buddies, entertainment, tea times, movies and of course, lots of great books! It’s a great way to enjoy reading over the summer. It’s easy to get a prize. Just choose books that interest you, keep track of what you read, return the books after a week and collect your library dollar. With your library dollar you may choose prizes from the display case.
Every Tuesday the library presents Terrific Tuesdays at 2 p.m. with different presenters and programs.
Every Thursday the library has Tea Time at 2 p.m., with cake and apple blossom tea (apple juice) stories, music and crafts. Tea Time is very popular, please register.
Every Friday morning at 10 a.m. the children’s department has a free movie with popcorn (please bring your own drink).

Young Adult Programs
On Wednesday, June 13, Casper Ratliff, a hair stylist at Heads Up Styling Salon in Syracuse, shares a professional viewpoint of the fashion experience at the Young Adult “Follow Your Dream” summer program. Come and play in the pampered world of hair care beginning at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, June 20, be creative with food and design a pizza and be an Olympian by participating in some competitive Food Olympics, also beginning at 2 p.m.
Book Club
Adult book club meets on Wednesday, June 13, at 6:30 p.m. to discuss “First They Killed My Father” by Loung Ung, a memoir of surviving under the Cambodian genocides led by regime leader Pol Pot. New members always welcome.
Gangsters in Syracuse
Think mobsters are just a Hollywood creation or only belong in big cities? Think again, wise guy! County historian Dan Coplen leads a fun presentation on the history of the mob in Syracuse, from gambling hotspots like the Spink Wawasee in the 1920’s and 1930’s, to legends of buried mobster loot around the lake, to weekend visitors like Al Capone. This is a laid back program and patrons are encouraged to bring their own stories and questions to ask Mr. Coplen at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, in the lower level of the library. This program is free to attend.
Movies
The adult department will be showing Hoffa starring Jack Nicholson at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, in the lower level of the library. The children’s department will be showing Secret Life of Arrietty at 10 a.m., and Smitty at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 15.
