‘Cartoon Mania’ Is 2012 Flotilla Theme
The 2012 Wawasee Flotilla may bring a bit of nostalgia and humor to the lake on July 8, with this year’s theme of “Cartoon Mania.”
The Flotilla will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Lake Wawasee’s Conklin Bay, lead by the 2012 Commodore Bob Myers. But the event is not just for decorated boats. Residents along the Flotilla route on Lake Wawasee are also being encouraged to decorate the shore with the theme.
Why not have Deputy Dawg or the Flintstones visiting to watch the Flotilla — last year members of the rock band Kiss and a few other singers were at the Spink Condo enjoying the Flotilla.
Maybe Superman or Spiderman will make an appearance on land or water. Wonder if Popeye will be available, or Foghorn Leghorn?
Could SpongeBob and his friends from Bikini Bottom find their way back to Wawasee?
There will be an award given for the best shore decoration.
Those wishing to decorate and enter a boat into the parade can do so. The requirements are simple: the boat must be able to travel a minimum of 10 miles per hour. Because the Flotilla travels clockwise around the lake, the port side (left side) needs to be decorated.
New judging categories have been added to the traditional categories. Added are Best Lake Wawasee History, Most Original and Most Patriotic entries. The traditional categories will remain: business/commercial, neighborhood, non-profit, youth, antique boat and wooden boat. Also the top categories will continue to be the Commodore’s Trophy, Wawasee Property Owners Association Award, and Department of Natural Resources Award.
Only those residences and boats who register will be eligible for prizes. To register or for more details call 574-457-3775.
