UPDATE: Man Arrested At Gunpoint
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department officers were called at 5:30 a.m. to the area of Maple Leaf Farms in reference to a possible missing person. Before officers could reach the duck processing business at CRs 900 North and 200 East, the 9-1-1 Center received information that the missing female, Maria R. Malagon, 34, of Warsaw, was possibly being held against her will by her estranged husband, Miguel Angel Malagon, 41, also of Warsaw, in the area of SR 15 and CR 900 North.
As KCSD Deputy Travis Shively arrived in the area he located two vehicles north of the intersection on SR 15. One of the vehicles immediately attempted to leave as Officer Shively approached with his emergency lights activated. Miguel Malagon even drove around the squad car that was blocking the highway.
Officer Shively began pursuing the vehicle southbound until it did suddenly stop at the intersection of CR 900 North. The driver, Miguel Malagon, was ordered out of vehicle and down on the ground where he was held at gunpoint and taken into custody without any further incident.
During the investigation it was determined that Miguel Malagon had allegedly rammed his vehicle into his estranged wife’s vehicle and forced her off the roadway. Investigators believe the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute as the Malagons are currently separated. KCSD Sgt. Hill said the officer received information that Malagon had possibly used a gun in a prior domestic altercation with his estranged wife which is why he took precautions in arresting the suspect.
Miguel Malagon has preliminarily been charged with felony intimidation, criminal recklessness with a vehicle, felony fleeing law enforcement and invasion of privacy (violation of a protective order). His bond had not yet been set.
