UPDATE: Two Hurt In Police Pursuit
A Milford man was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital with pelvic injuries after he crashed his vehicle while fleeing an officer.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hill says reserve officer Ben Sanders attempted to stop Jayson L. Howey, 29, of Milford, on CR 700 East at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 2. Howey allegedly tried to flee from Sanders and crashed into a tree on CR 650 East at McKenna Road near North Webster.
The Indiana State Police are investigating the crash, which also injured a passenger in Howey’s car. Morgan Cain, 26, of Syracuse, was treated at an area hospital also for abdominal/pelvic injuries. Initially, Samaritan air ambulance was called to the scene, but authorities today say neither victim was flown. Howey was, however, transported to Lutheran Hospital for treatment.
According to the ISP report, Howey was driving 56 mph in a 30 mph zone. When Deputy Sanders attempted to pull over the vehicle, Howey ran a stop sign at CRs 700E and 400N and passed a pickup truck in a no passing zone on CR 700E. Deputy Sanders lost sight of the car but continued on west on Barbee Lake Road. He located the car against a tree at CR 650E and McKenna Road.
Authorities say Howey submitted to a blood draw and alcohol related charges are pending.
