Accidents
The following accidents were investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
- Sunday, May 20 7:30 a.m. Backwater Road and CR 850 E Syracuse. Driver: James E. Cavender, 41, 83 EMS T7B LN, Syracuse. Driver struck a deer. Damages up to $2,500.
- Sunday, May 20 11:45 a.m. CR 1300 N. Driver: Matthew E. Miller, 17, 8487 N 425 W, Milford. Driver ran off the road to avoid striking a slowing vehicle in front of him and struck utility pole. Injured: Jesse Brito, 14, Milford. Suffered minor leg injury. Damages up to $10,000.
- Sunday, May 20 4:50 p.m. Rozella Road and Meadow Lane. Driver 1: Ashley M. Tharp, 22, 2890 S 400 E, Pierceton. Driver 2: Kimberley E. Kurosky, 27, 1904 Short Ridge Drive, Warsaw. Tharp’s vehicle struck the rear of Kurosky’s vehicle. Injured: Both drivers complained of back pain. Damages up to $25,000.
- Sunday, May 20 3:35 p.m. SR 19 N. Driver: Richard J. Peterson, 54, 419 Elm Street, East Chicago. Driver was struck by a bicyclist. Injured: Edward E. Miller, 33, 7800 N 800 W Nappanee. Suffered abrasions to elbow and forearm. Driver suffered abrasions to back. Damages up to $10,000.
- Sunday, May 20 7:30 p.m. 888 N River Ave. Driver: Christopher R. Dausman, 17, 811 E 550 N, Leesburg. Driver backed into another vehicle. Damages up to $2,500.
- Monday, May 21 6:20 a.m. Old SR 15. Driver: Lance W. Lucas, 26, 1113 N 525 W, Warsaw. Driver struck a deer. Damages up to $2,500.
Incidents
The following incidents were investigated by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.
- Wednesday, May 16 at 11:30 p.m. Keesha Clark of Mentone reported that she was battered by her husband and ran to a neighbor’s residence.
- Thursday, May 17 G and G Hauling of Warsaw reported an auto theft that occurred sometime during the night.
- Wednesday, May 16 at 4:15 p.m. Jeanette Fairchild of Pierceton reported someone trying to start a fight at her residence. At the same address, at 6:00 PM, Jennifer Shepherd of Warsaw also reported a battery.
- Wednesday, May 16 Donald G. Johnston of Pierceton reported the fraudulent use of his credit card.
- Sunday, May 13 at 2:05 a.m. a sheriff’s deputy responded to an unknown type of accident on ST RD 25 at CR 600 W. The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident had the odor of an alcoholic beverage about him.
- Sunday, April 29 at 8:33 a.m. a sheriff’s deputy responded to an accident on Armstrong Road, just east of CR 200 E. The driver of the vehicle was under the influence at the time of the accident. No one was injured.
- Thursday, May 10 Wawasee High School reported that a student on a Wawasee Community School bus poked holes in a bus seat with a pen.
- Tuesday, May 8 Sam Whitaker of Warsaw reported the theft of scrap metal from the property of Ted Eheraman.
- Sunday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. Chans Cochran of Warsaw reported harassment.
- Thursday, May 17 Emily Hemer of Silver Lake reported that several purchases were made on her credit card without her permission. A suspect has been named.
- Wednesday, May 16 Matthew Tucker reported that an unknown person called his place of business and an employee answered the phone. The male caller then threatened another person who works there.
- Thursday, May 17 at 10:59 a.m. Donald Bissett of Pierceton reported that his vehicle was damaged in an accident, and that the other vehicle involved had fled the scene.
- Thursday, May 17 at 1:43 p.m. George Klinger reported a burglary attempt at CR 150 S between 2670 W and 2596 W.
- Saturday, May 12 at 7:59 p.m. Rodney Scott of Syracuse reported discovering damage to his vehicle that occurred sometime in the last few weeks.
- Thursday, May 17 at 8:11 p.m. a Warsaw woman reported a battery and rape that occurred earlier that morning. A suspect has been named, but no additional information has been provided.
- Thursday, May 17 at 8:09 p.m. police were called to 504 E Center Street in Warsaw for a welfare check.
- Monday, May 14 Kit and Mellow Hall of Warsaw reported the theft of a lock box containing personal information at their home between 9:00 p.m. and 11:15 p.m.
- Friday, May 18 at 8:17 a.m. Charles Lovely reported multiple items of fishing gear stolen off his boat sometime during the night.
- Friday, May 18 at 11:27 p.m. Juan C. Martinez-Rincon was arrested for driving without a driver’s license.
- Monday, May 14 Jennifer Orr, office manager of the Winona Lake Branch of Lake City Bank, reported a possible home improvement fraud that happened to one of the bank’s customers.
- Tuesday, May 15 Jeremy G. Shepherd reported that the property owner of a house that he is buying walked into the house without his permission. He said that the house is going into foreclosure and the owners are trying to evict them.
- Saturday, May 19 Chris Claybaugh of Pierceton reported that he was battered by his former girlfriend.
- Friday, May 18 Mark L. Palmer reported that two of his vehicles were keyed sometime during the night. Both vehicles were scratched on three sides, and a profanity that was scratched into both, as well.
- Saturday, May 19 Kevin K. Fentner of R and B Car Company in Warsaw reported that a vehicle that a customer took on March 19 had not been returned. The customer has not provided insurance information or paid anything for the vehicle.
- Friday, May 18 at 5:18 p.m. a Warsaw woman reported that her grandson shot her in the lip with an air soft pellet gun following an argument.
- Tuesday, May 1 realtor Kathy Hamman reported that a house that she was showing had been broken into and several items were stolen.
- Friday, May 18 at 5:40 p.m. Jimmy Patrick was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. His vehicle had crashed on Country Club Road north of CR 400 S.
- Friday, May 18 at 10:30 p.m. Janet Combs of Pierceton reported that her wallet was taken off her kitchen counter. There was no forced entry into the residence.
- Sunday, May 20 at 8:00 p.m. Jamie R. Laird of North Webster reported that an attempted burglary after an unknown person kicked her door, attempting to gain entry to the residence.
- Sunday, May 20 at 9:42 p.m. an officer responded to a report of a verbal fight between a married couple. Upon arrival, screaming was heard from inside the home. The officer entered the home under exigent circumstances and found both adults yelling in the children’s room.
- Sunday, May 20 at 8:18 p.m. Michelle A. Stimmel of North Webster reported that her billfold had been stolen following problems with an unwanted intoxicated female.
- Monday, May 14 Haley M. Linton of Warsaw reported that her car had been keyed while she was attempting to retrieve some money owed to a family member.
- Thursday, May 17 at 8:5 a.m. police responded to a suicide at 12486 N. Kern Rd, Syracuse.
- Monday, May 21 at 12:30 p.m. Deb O’Day of Larwill reported someone missing from Jellystone Campground.
- Wednesday, May 16 at 5:15 p.m. a Leesburg woman reported possible child abuse or neglect.
- Thursday, May 17 at 9:00 a.m. Jose Rangel reported that, while he was at work, someone forced open the door to his garage and stole several items.
- Sunday, May 13 at 2:16 p.m. Steven J. Clemans was arrested after damaging a North Webster Police patrol car while intoxicated.
- Sunday, May 20 at 2:00 a.m. police were called concerning an argument between two Claypool residents over a dog that had trespassed onto private property.
- Tuesday, May 22 at 7:01 p.m. two juveniles were involved in an ATV accident.
- Wednesday, May 16 at 11:17 a.m. Shane Hogan reported that he was battered by a female suspect.
- Saturday, May 12 at 11:41 a.m. Robert Eclerco of Lemont, IL reported damage to his vehicle at the Barbee Hotel.
- Sunday, May 13 at 11:03 a.m. Casey Rinker reported several items stolen from her residence.
- Sunday, May 13 at 1:07 p.m. David Capito reported something stolen from his residence.
