Wawasee Sports Wrap – May 19
LAKELAND RUN-RULES WAWASEE BASEBALL
A 1-0 game headed into the bottom of the fourth inning quickly turned into an 11-1 Lakeland rout Saturday afternoon in Lagrange.
Lakeland posted five runs in the fourth and another five-spot in the fifth to separate the two teams. Alex Pearson held Wawasee (6-19 overall) to just four hits. Gage Reinhard had the lone RBI for the Warriors.
WAWASEE CLAIMS DIRTBAG CLASSIC
While the varsity were off to Lagrange, the JV were home to host the four-team Dirtbag Classic. The Warriors didn’t disappoint, winning 11-6 over Wabash in game one and 17-1 over Churubusco for the title.
Wawasee (8-14) combined for 32 hits on the day, led by five from Aaron Voirol. Nate Prescott had a double and triple in the Wabash game and Caleb Dingeldein had doubles in both games. EJ Solina earned the win against Wabash, scattering eight hits while Jordan Elliott held the Eagles to just five hits in five innings to claim the title.
LADIES SPLIT AT WAWASEE INVITE
Fairfield outscored Wawasee 12-2 in the final three innings to claim a 16-6 win in the first round of the Wawasee JV Softball Invitational. Wawasee rebounded with a 13-3 win against Plymouth in the consolation game.
Wawasee had 14 hits against Fairfield, with five players each having a pair. Sarah Olejniczak had a double and two RBIs while Sierra Hart also added a double.
Wawasee (17-8) closed its season with its third run-rule win over Plymouth this year. Both teams did all of its scoring in the first three innings. Hart was the standout, ripping four hits including a homer and driving in five runs. Alexis Graber drove in three runs in the season finale.
