LADY WARRIORS CLOSE GRID WITH WIN
Wawasee’s softball team concluded its varsity regular season schedule with a 5-2 win Friday night at Bremen.
Gabi Routson worked 5.1 innings of relief to get the win, holding Bremen to just one hit and striking out six. Starter Kylie Norris didn’t make it through the second inning, giving up three hits, three walks and both Bremen runs.
Wawasee (15-13) rallied with all five of its runs in the third inning, where Routson had a two-run single and Amber Yoder and Sam Malik each drove in a run, Malik’s RBI coming on a double. Norris did add a pair of hits as did Madi Anderson. Saylor Bailey took the loss, working four innings of seven hit, five strikeout ball. Three of the five runs were earned, as the Lions kicked the ball around four times on the night.
The Lady Warrior JV (16-7) were held to just one hit in a 10-0 romp by Bremen, which ripped 13 hits of its own. Wawasee’s JV season ends tomorrow in the two-game Wawasee Invitational.
The varsity will lace the cleats back up for a Tuesday tilt with NorthWood in the fourth game of the Fairfield Sectional, starting approximately at 7 p.m. Lakeland-Tippecanoe Valley and Fairfield-West Noble highlight the Monday night slate. The Monday winners play in game one on Tuesday and the Fairfield Sectional championship is set for 7 p.m. Thursday night.
