Wawasee Sports Wrap – May 16
DIRTBAGS REBOUND FOR UPSET WIN
Wawasee saw a 9-0 lead evaporate before rallying with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun Concord, 12-11, at Wawasee in the final Northern Lakes Conference baseball game for both teams.
The Warriors put up its largest inning output of the season, nine runs, in the bottom of the first only to see Concord clip the lead to 9-7 after three innings. Concord (16-10, 8-6 NLC) added a four-spot in the sixth to take a two-run lead before Wawasee plated the game-winner in its final at-bat.
Nate Hare had three hits and two RBIs to lead Wawasee (6-18, 3-11 NLC) and Gage Reinhard added two runs driven in. John Beer picked up the win in relief.
The Warrior JV (6-13) were doubled up by Concord, 14-7, despite a big night from Austin Yoder, who had four hits and two runs batted in. Nate Prescott also drove in two runs for the Warriors.
CONCORD RALLIES TO EDGE OUT SOFTBALL WIN
Concord scored three runs in the final two innings, including a pair in the final frame, to upend Wawasee, 5-4, in Dunlap. The win gave Concord (17-9, 9-5 NLC) sole possession of third place in the Northern Lakes Conference standings, with Wawasee (14-13, 8-6 NLC) sliding to fourth.
Stacie Carr drove in two runs for Wawasee while Jenny Miller paced Concord with two hits and an RBI at the plate and six strikeouts in the circle. Wawasee managed just three hits against Miller all night.
The Lady Warrior JV (16-6) lost its final NLC game of the season, 7-5, at Concord. Wawasee wraps up its conference season 11-3. Sarah Olejniczak was three-for-three with two runs driven in for the Wawasee cause.
