Maxine Helen Harreld
Maxine Helen Harreld, 96, of Leesburg, Ind., passed away at 5:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012, in her residence.
She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Marion, Ind., to Russell and Myrtle (Hamaker) Kessler. She graduated in 1933 from Marion High School and on Jan. 16, 1937, she married Robert Sterling Harreld in Marion. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2004.
She was the former owner/operator of Harreld’s Golfland in Marion and Indian Hills Golf Course in Leesburg, and she formerly worked at Hill’s Department Store and Foster Forbes in Marion. She lived in Marion until 1974 when she moved to Leesburg.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Leesburg; Lake Tippecanoe Property Owners Association where she received the Distinguished Lake Citizen’s Award in 2000 and was a founding member and past president of the Tippecanoe Women’s Association. She formerly was affiliated Morris Chapel United Methodist Church & Highland Avenue United Methodist Church both of Marion.
Mrs. Harreld is survived by a daughter: Mrs. Terry (Vickie) Bynum, Duluth, Minn.; three sons: Robert “Bob” (Renee) Harreld, Leesburg; Donald (Mary) Harreld, Albion; and Jack (Sharon) Harreld, Munford, Tenn.; nine grandchildren: Jay and Dottie Harreld, Fort Worth, TX; Mark and Judy Harreld, Aurora, Ill.; Angie and Bill Kaht, Burlington, KY; Kristen and Mitchell Kittlaus, Chicago; Brian and Leslie Harreld, Dexter, Mich.; Kevin and Lisa Harreld, Zionsville, Ind.; Jake and Courtney Harreld, Fishers, Ind.; Jessica Bynum, Vine Grove, KY; Matthew Bynum, Columbia, MO; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchild; and her caregiver: Joan Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister: Mildred Walton; and two brothers: Bill and Louis Kessler.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, Ind. Funeral services will follow at 5 p.m. on Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. William Lytle of the New Life Community Church in Marion officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 7, at Gardens of Memory, 11201 S. Marion Rd., Marion, in the chapel.
