A fire in Sunday’s early morning hours destroyed a Milford home and injured the homeowner.
According to Milford Fire Chief Todd Haines the Waubee Lake home, at 318 E. Nelson Dr., is owned by James and Rose Marie Mishler. James Mishler was home and asleep when he was awoken just before 3:30 a.m. to what he described to Haines as the sound of an explosion.
Haines told Stacey Page Online that Mishler went to investigate the noise and located the garage of the home fully engulfed in flames. Mishler suffered second-degree burns to his hands and was taken by Multi-Township EMS to the St. Joe Burn Center in Fort Wayne for treatment. No additional information on his condition was available.
Approximately 40 firefighters from Milford, Leesburg/Plain Township and Syracuse fire departments battled the blaze. They were on scene until 8:19 a.m.
Haines said the home, a pickup truck and a wave runner were all destroyed in the fire, which remains under investigation.
Because of the injury, the State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified. Kosciusko County’s Squad 70 fire investigation team has also been called to determine a cause.
